Schimmel is a textile artist. She is constantly searching for the essence of the textile materials she uses. 

Gerda Schimmel finds inspiration in nature. This is translated into her personal experience. The specific characteristics of the chosen subject and material give rise to her own applications in its processing. Searching instinctively, using simple techniques, her work emerges.

She is a textile teacher, theater designer, and part of the artist duo Horden & Schimmel. She has exhibited in Amsterdam, The Hague, Bergen, New York, Venice, Florence, Madrid, Paris and has been awarded “Medaille d‘Or” in the Salon des Beaux Arts 2023 in Paris, among others.
