Andy Cartier is a multidisciplinary designer, artist, circular consultant and the founder of Studio Cartier, a creative design studio known for its innovative work at the intersection of art, nature, and sustainability. Specializing in bio-design and material innovation, Studio Cartier explores the use of organic materials, particularly fungi, to create eco-friendly products, that challenge traditional manufacturing processes. By blending science, art, and design, Cartier pushes the boundaries of sustainable craftsmanship, offering visionary solutions that inspire a deeper connection with the natural world. Over the years, he has gained recognition for advancing eco-conscious design and material research.

"As an artist and designer, my work on the Fungal Art Series centers around nature and minimal human intervention. Over the years, I’ve embraced organic growth processes, letting the natural beauty of materials like mycelium take the lead. The series explores the interaction between fungi and their environment, creating unique, living patterns that are a fusion of art and nature.

Each piece begins with woven flax fabric stretched over wooden frames, onto which Ganoderma Lucidum mycelium is introduced. By feeding the fungi with natural inputs like berm grass clippings, I limit my role to that of a facilitator, allowing the mycelium to grow with minimal interference. This process results in organic textures and colors that reflect the natural world’s artistic potential. Once the growth reaches its peak, I apply a natural matte varnish to preserve the evolving artwork. These pieces are living canvases, capturing nature’s slow, deliberate expression."
