In this lecture, mycologist Danny Haelewaters from Ghent University will shed light on understudied fungi species and their importance in biodiversity conservation and ecological health.

While fungi make up around 20% of eukaryotic life on Earth, their diversity and ecological importance remain largely understudied, with over 90% of species still waiting to be formally described. Participants will gain insights into the significance of studying these fungi in maintaining biodiversity and conservation, and will have the opportunity for hands-on learning through microscope work and drawings.
